Of Rarest Color

It is the lucky few who are blessed to be born with red hair, the rarest of hair color in the world. We often say that these individuals have fiery spirits to match, that even science has revealed that redheads feel pain more intensely than most. Perhaps it is acceptable to say they feel joy in a similar way. It is not a surprised that among us they stand out beautifully and distinct.

My niece Kara, the subject of this painting, has always been one of these unique souls. Her creativity, imagination and genuine spirit have always set her apart.

Which is why I have always enjoyed the privilege of painting her rare and intense hair color as well as trying to capture her vibrant personality. This is a tribute to a person who stands out because she was never meant to blend in.
